Every morning I start the day off with a smoothie, oh and a coffee too. I’ve found that since I began doing this two months ago, I crave less sweets. I used to have a bowl of cereal each day, and then be hungry again about 90 min later. Come 10 am, no muffin or cookie was safe!
Enter the smoothie. Now, not only am I not hungry until lunch, I also can function on only one coffee. These are two side effects I wasn’t anticipating because I only switched to having a smoothie because I figured it would be a quick way to get a jump start on my daily fruits n veggies. So now, everyday, I throw various things from the ridge into my smoothie. I always start with the following 4 things:
- 1 cup of milk
- 1 scoop of vanilla protein powder
- 2 tablespoons of ground flax seeds
- a handful of spinach
Now this is where it gets interesting, the other things I throw in are what gives my shakes their flavour. Some days I throw in either:
- 1/2 a banana, or
- a handful of blueberries, or
- a cup of mixed frozen fruit, or
- a cup of madarin orange slices, or
- a cup of peaches
I rarely have the same shake two days in a row. Some days I even add yogurt. Today I had a 1/2 banana shake. And tomorrow? Who knows, what do you suggest? What do you put in your smoothie?
