Healthy Emotional Eating Alternatives

I have a confession….

I’m an emotional eater.  I eat when I’m lonely, bored, sad and angry.  When I’m feeling emotional I’ll pretty much overeat on anything sweet, salty or crunchy that I can get my hands on.

Yesterday I was feeling rather lonely.  Hubs has been working a TON lately, and he’ll be away on business all this week. I really MISS him – I miss his companionship… A LOT!

So I overate .

I ate an entire 2lb bag of…..

Now some people might say I should get a handle on my emotional eating and my triggers.  To journal my thoughts and feelings… blah… blah… blah…

Whatever. That’s not a realistic solution *for me*.

Did you know that 2lbs of carrots is only 300 calories?   OK, so that sounds like quite a bit, but when you consider HOW FULL I feel now and how I don’t really think I can fit anymore in, then 300 calories isn’t so bad, now is it?

Especially in comparison to:

  • 2lbs of chicken wings = 2, 424 calories
  • 2lbs cool ranch potato chips = 4,800 calories
I’m not going to feel bad about this because I made a HEALTHY CHOICE.
For the next week while hubby is gone I’m going to stock the cupboards with things that are OK to over eat:
  • Bananas
  • Apple slices
  • cucumbers
  • carrots
  • grapes
  • navel oranges
And guess what?  I benefit from all the extra vitamins and nutrients these foods provide, win-win!
All the best in health and fitness,

I really think it’s great that you find good alternatives. It’s really a good start maybe in time you wont eat anymore when your emotional. Good job and keep on going the right way.
