As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, this week I ‘m being thankful. (Though I should strive to be thankful every week).
One of the things I ‘m thankful for is DinnerIt. Meal planning for busy families has been made easier by a new service in Toronto and the GTA is called DinnerIt. Every week they have a new menu of meals that they post on their website. Order the meals, and on Sunday night they deliver all the food that you need and the recipes right to your door! Then, during the week all you have to do is follow the recipes and cook the meals.
DinnerIt offered to deliver the medium-sized bag to us: 3 meals for 4 people. This is a $99 value. Because we have 5 people in our family this worked out to $6.66/person/meal – a bit cheaper than McDonald’s, yet FAR healthier and way more tasty!
This is the perfect size for our family because two nights of the week we have wraps for dinner due to evening activities (swimming on Monday nights, and skating on Wednesday nights). The other three nights of the week we’re often floundering around the kitchen trying to figure out what to cook. All of the DinnerIt meals take appx. 45 min to prepare and cook. It’s a bit long for my kids to wait, however I just gave them a healthy snack to tie them over. So far this week we made the Crispy Salami Pizza and the Greek Chicken with Grilled Eggplant and Feta :
This was delicious!
There was way more than enough of the ingredients to make the pizza, so I was able to get creative with the leftovers and made salami wraps before skating *grin*. We also had some pizza leftover so I enjoyed it for my lunch yesterday – score!
What I really like about the meals is that they are not plain and boring. They’re tasty but not too complicated to cook. (I seriously suck at cooking and have very little creativity in the kitchen). My husband especially liked that the healthy meals have a lot of flavour. My kids who are used to my bland cooking are tool a little more convincing that the pizza was good.
Mom – what are these slimy things in the pizza?
Those my dear are zucchini, and they’re good for you.
In hindsight, I probably should have made one pizza without the vegetables, and given them a plate of cucumbers, and carrots on the side like I usually do.
On the other hand the kids LOVED the Greek Chicken meal and even asked for seconds!
There is one thing about the service that I didn’t like… It would be nice if the food was delivered earlier as it would be nice to prepare all the meals on Sunday afternoon, then store them all ready in the fridge, however I realise that would be a logistical nightmare for Dinner It to coordinate all of those deliveries around a family’s busy weekend schedule. Sunday nights are a very likely time for families to be home, us included.
Thank you DinnerIt for allowing us to try your service!
