Over the course of our lives, many people help to influence who we become. I strongly believe that every person who comes into my life has come into my life to serve a purpose. We learn life lessons from everyone we meet.
Two years ago, my best running friend came into my life by chance. It was towards the end of summer, and I was on our front lawn playing a somewhat quiet game of UNO with my two oldest daughters who were 5 and 7 at the time. Her two daughters recognized my daughters from school. Now Juliette is a very friendly person and will walk right up and say Hi to anyone, a trait her daughters have acquired from her. We live on the side of the street without a sidewalk, so usually when people walk by, they just wave “Hi” and carry on with their walk around the block. After asking Juliette if they could cross the street, Juliette and her daughters came right over. Our game of UNO had just ended so we started another game, this time all 6 of us played. We had a lot of fun, and somehow that game of UNO turned into Juliette and I exchanging cell phone numbers to arrange for more playdates.
Over the past two years Juliette and I have become good friends through our daughters. She came into my life when I really needed a new friend. All of the mom friends I had made had moved away from our Town. One moved to Australia, two others moved to Calgary, and another had moved Waterloo. With her entry into my life, so did quite a few life lessons. Some of the best #LifeAdvice I’ve received has been through her. Some indirectly – like her bubbly personality, and some others more directly:

Through Juliette I’ve learned that there’s no time like the present. With her nothing waits. If we start talking about wanting to do something, she’ll have us pull out our calendars and set a date and time to do XYZ activity, race, event or gathering. As a runner, she reminds me to just take that first step out the door, and I’m very thankful that she took that first step across the street and into my life.
We all have people who inspire us with great life advice and Manulife would like to see us pay it forward and to thank those people who have touched our lives this holiday season – perhaps with a shout out to them on Facebook similar to the one I sent to my bestie?
Or perhaps you could thank them with a tweet?
