Motivation Monday – January 25, 2010

This is my Mamavation post for January 25, 2010.

Yay!  I’m getting closer to my goal!  Besides training for the 1/2 marathon, my goal for this year is to lose 16 lbs.  By losing this weight I’ll be back at my wedding weight!!  I was smoking hot (as we all were) on my wedding day and I REALLY want to get back to that!  I know… I know… pictures… Here ya go – this is what I looked like 6yrs ago when hubby and I kissed the single life good bye at Casear’s Palace in Vegas:

Me - April 6, 2004

Oh wait – I forgot to tell you how much closer to my goal I am – ooops :) This week I lost 1.7 lbs.  That brings my total weight loss this year to 4.1 lbs!

Oh my goodness!  The Loseit.com site is really really helping!  I’ve always known that food journalling and meal planning worked – we discussed it at length in both my nutrition courses and sport psychology courses in University, but I’ve never actually tested the theories I learned about (yes, us Kinesiologists are a “do as I say, not as I do” kinda group).  This week I was really stringent on my journalling and my hard work paid off!

I’ve also been running tons!  This week I ran 27k and added three 100m sprints at the end of my run on Friday (I did this to try and get faster).  My saturday long run was really tough and I stopped to walk and stretch several times.  The problem with running outside is that if you want to quit you still need to make it back home somehow.

I’ve also been working hard at learning to cook.  This week I made a Quinao Salad, a Beef Stew, Tuna Casserole, Banana Bread and Turkey Chili (I’ve shared all of the recipes here with you).  They were all very yummy and I have enough leftovers to feed my family this entire week.  Why would I do that?  Because hubby is in Ireland until next Saturday and I HATE cooking with the kids hanging off of my legs after work when he’s gone.  It also decreases the amount of dishes I’ll have to do, my stress and my emotional eating.

Goals for next week:
Next week i want to continue eating well and running.  I don’t want to let hubby’s absence lead to emotional eating and the drinking of way too much beer (normally when he’s away I drink 1-3 beers EVERY night after the kids go to bed). My running goal is to run 27K again.

How was your week?  What did you do well?  What can you do better on?  Did you learn anything about yourself?

  1. Great job! I agree about the cooking thing—it’s so hard to make anything when the hubby is out of town, isn’t it?

I need to work on the emotional eating that I do once the kids go to bed. It’s gotten out of hand—I’m just so wiped out! (as I’m sure you know!)

Keep up the momentum and you’ll be back in that dress before you know it! :)

Sounds like you are well on your way to hitting your wedding weight. I guess we all have similar goals – I am not sure how much I weighed when I got married but I think I was at or close to my goal weight. Half-way there!

You are so close to that wedding picture! You’ll get there in no time! Do you have the dress still? Maybe you can get someone to take a picture of you in it when you get there! I’d love to see it.

4.1 while being so close to your goal is MAJOR! You are rockin’ it. I know you do active rest days but do you do other cross-training for cardio. 27k is pretty good but with your mileage increase as you approach May do you have any concerns about overuse injuries? What is your plan to mix it up to avoid those? I am curious to see what you’ll do.

You are awesome!!! 27K…really???? I tried running, and was doing pretty good until I got pneumonia last year. That kind of brought it to a halt. But I am ok with that….I really HATE running! LOL! It hurts!

I do want to say, your pictures are so beautiful! Thank you for sharing!
    Much love

You’re doing great woman! And what a beautiful bride! You’re an inspiration to me girl. Have you tried meditation whenever you think about eating too much? It helps.

What’s the key to effective meal planning?

One one hand, some say calories in, calories out.
Other’s preach the power of nutritional density.
Other’s say the key is to know how your metabolism works.
Yet, others say it’s more important to keep shocking your body and rotate through calorie levels so that your body stays burning.

  19. You have done fantastic on your loosing the weight. I really can’t wait til your main run. I hate emotional eating too, I tend to do it a lot if something is bugging me. Just try and find something to keep you busy if you can to not go in that darn kitchen!! You’re doing so awesome!

    • Thanks – taking control of the emotions that cause the emotional eating is my main focus this year – that’s why I’m running, meeting more runners, and of course hanging out with the mamavation moms. Ladies you are helping me in so many ways! Thank you!
