Motivation Monday: Bring on the Triathlon Training!

Happy Monday everyone!! How was your weekend?

Up here in Southern Ontario (Canada) it was gorgeous! Partly sunny and WARM! As in so warm that I was able to run in a T-shirt on Sunday!  Checking back on my schedule I was supposed to run 12k on Sunday but it was so gorgeous out that I took my husband up on his challenge to me: he dared me to run over to the Niagara Escarpment (steep slope as a result of erosion from the ice age), run UP it, then run back DOWN it, and run home.  I did it – but man am I ever sore today!!

All in all I had a fantastic running week and ran 36km.  It feels great to be running and training for something again!  Oh how I love training.

This week I’ll begin to mix in one cycle and one swim into my mix of workouts to begin training for the triathlons that I mentioned in goals post last week.  I’m not that fond of swimming, but my friend Debra is so she’s promised to drag my a$$ to the pool and make me work every Friday night.  I had to talk to my hubby about that because Friday nights are usually our movie night together.  10 years ago when I did the Olympic and sprint triathlons I was in FANTASTIC shape, so hubby was very happy that I’ve decided to get back into Tri shape again.

Speaking of tri shape – here’s a funny video that talks about just that:

Here’s this week’s training plan:

Monday: Nike Training Club workout before work, spinning at lunch
Tuesday: 6k run at lunch
Wednesday: BodyPump
Thursday: 6k run at lunchFriday: 8k run at lunch, Swimming after the kids go to bed
Saturday: rest
Sunday: 14k run

Looking at my weekly plan, it’s really no wonder I was in kick butt shape when I was doing tri’s, and I can’t wait to get back there!

Have a great week everyone!

Remember – there’s no finish line in the journey to health!

Thanks for stopping by,
Janice

I love that run up the escarpment. Haven’t done it in ages though. Your weekly plan is inspiring. Time to light a fire under my own ass.

If it had not been windy and raining here I would have run outside too. I wish I had, I totally overheated on the treadmill!

I haven’t run that stretch, but I did ride it on my bike once. My riding partner (an Ironman mind you) whined the whole way…

Looks like you have a full week planned, I have been out of commission for so long I forgot what that is like. Good luck!

The most important focus that you have is to build your aerobic base, yet it quite often is glossed over in triathlon training for beginners and triathlon training plans all together. A fatal mistake for the person who is trying get better year on year.
