This is my Mamavation Monday post for Monday, March 15, 2010.
Remember how I wrote last week that some weeks are easy, and some weeks are hard? Well this past week was really hard for me, although I did manage to fit ALL 33k of my half-marathon training runs in, plus my Yoga class and some additional strength training from the Fit Moms N Fit Kids DVD. When I wasn’t exercising I was staring at my computer screen blankly, or crashed out on the couch. I had zero energy. I had chills, body aches and extreme fatigue, though I felt good enough to run – but all of my runs felt like I was going uphill and against the wind, even the times when I was actually running downhill.
Some weeks are just like that.
The fatigue also started the nasty caffeine, overeating spiral, so on Friday I contacted my doctor who gently reminded me that I’m iron deficient and have anemia. Oh yeah…. My iron. I ran out of my iron pills last Sunday and didn’t get around to buying more on Monday. For the rest of the week I was just too tired and the more days that went by, the worse my fatigue got. The more tired I got, the more caffeine I consumed (which prevents iron absorption). Fatigue, caffeine, overeating… I created a downward spiral and overate to comfort myself, trying to give myself more energy. I did get around to weighing myself – I gained 0.5lbs. If I hadn’t forced myself to run it probably would have been worse because that number doesn’t reflect how awful I felt, and horribly I ate.
I’m happy to report that I bought more iron on Friday and began taking it right away. I felt almost immediately better (though this time change thing isn’t really helping) and I hope to have a much better week this week.
How has your week been? What demons did you face? What were your successes?
