This is my Mamavation post for Monday, June 14, 2010.
Hey! How’s everyone doing?
Last week was amazing! It was week #2 of my Choose You Healthy Challenge and I fit in at least 30 minutes of activity on 5 of the 7 days. I also packed healthy lunches, and prepared healthy meals at home (though I’m not sure if I fit in 7-8 servings of fruits and veggies each day – I really need to start logging that). I worked out with my >awesome trainer on Monday and Wednesday as I had planned, and also started week 2 of the Couch to 5K program on Tuesday. Unfortuantely I didn’t continue the healthy trend on Thursday and Friday – I had those two days off of work to go to the New Kids on the Block (NKOTB) concert with my best friend forever (we had a great time!). The concert was at a Casino over two hours away, so we stayed overnight there. My eating wasn’t horrible – my best friend has celiac’s disease – so I stayed supportive of her and ate much less junk (cookies, cakes, bagels, muffins) than I normally do when out of my routine. However I didn’t workout as I had planned, even though I brought my workout clothes and my laptop loaded with exercise DVD’s to do. I had intended to inspire my friend to workout with me, or at least make a fool out of myself in front of her, however staying up too late for the concert Thursday night left me feeling sluggish and yucky all day Friday. Argh! I forgot how much sleep impacts my desire to eat healthy and be active (even though I wrote a great article about how important sleep is once before). Saturday was much better! My just turned 5 yo daughter, Sierra, learned how to start riding her bike on her own Friday night (previously she could ride her bike and stop her bike, but couldn’t start without help). So on Saturday she was so excited about her new skill that she was dying to show it off and to go on a long bike ride with mommy. I suggested we ride to the Farmer’s Market downtown about 20-25 min bike ride away. Sierra’s younger sister, 2 yo Brooke, wanted in on the action too, so I pulled her behind me in the bike trailer. Hubby met us at the market because he doesn’t have a bike (yet – I hope to find an affordable one for him for father’s day). On the way back Brooke wanted to go in the car with daddy, so I pulled an empty trailer home. Empty or not, cycling with a trailer is a tough workout (especially 19 weeks pregnant)! On Sunday, I spent 2 hours cleaning the house while the girls were out at gymnastics with daddy, then I barely sat down the rest of the day because I had guests over (my parents, my brother and his girlfriend). It’s funny how a change in routine, or not enough sleep can really sabotage the best of intentions. All day Friday I craved sugar, and had no energy to do anything. Not wanting to completely give in to my cravings I ate tons of fruit – but even fruit spiked up my blood sugar, leaving me feeling even more lethargic. I really should have drank more water and ate some protein like cottage cheese with my fruit to give me energy and to keep me from having the crashes. Saturday I still didn’t feel like exercising, but Sierra was so keen on going on a long bike ride with me that I really couldn’t let her down. I’m glad I went though because I felt amazing afterwards. I wonder if I had just sucked it up on Friday and worked out if I would have felt better?
This coming week will be completely normal – no concerts, and no guests. I do have a midwife appointment and a physiotherapy appointment to fit in, and as I didn’t get the second and third runs of Week 2 of the Couch to 5K program in last week, I’ll revert back this week and start week #2 over. My activity plans for this week are:
Monday: Work out with my awesome trainer at lunch
Tuesday: Week #2, day 1 of the Couch to 5K program before work (no lunch break because I’m using flex time to go to my 19 week mid-wife appointment)
Wednesday: Work out with my awesome trainer at lunch
Thursday: Week #2, day 2 of the Couch to 5K program at lunch
Friday: Rest day (no lunch break because I’m using flex time for my physiotherapy appointment)
Saturday: Week #2, day 3 of the Couch to 5K program
Sunday: Rest day/house work day.
How was your week? How did you do in week #2 of the Choose You Challenge? Have you been struggling to be motivated to be active? If so, why don’t you join in with week #3 of the Choose You Healthy Challenge? Just leave a comment on the original challenge post so that I can send you a log form for this week.
Have a great week everyone!
PS – congrats to last week’s Mamavation Sista of the Week winner: CJ (@CJinKY) !!

I can’t wait until my kids can ride bikes with me. My now 8 yo still can’t ride a bike, I think my 4 yo will learn before she does. Oh well. Sounds like a great week!!
I’m in the same boat. My 5 yr old son can’t ride his bike yet!! I can’t wait till he does so we can ride bikes together!! What fun!
Good luck with this week sounds like you got a great plan mapped out!!
I love that the whole family is getting active together! I really want to try the Couch to 5K program. Hope you have a great week.
I cant wait till I can buy hubby and I a bike and a bike trailer so I can pull Jake.
Hope you are having a great week!
I want a bike so badly — how fun that you and your kiddos took that ride and that they had the stamina to stick with it. Yay, kiddos and mama!
It is crazy how upsetting a routine can be like a domino effect and make you end up feeling way off. I am glad you are getting back to balance now. My week was great though I am out of any physical challenges. I had my baby but before that my last cardio refuge of the pool was taken from me when we were in the mid-90s. Gah, that was just cruel.
Lack of sleep always ruins my day and for a variety of reasons! Good luck this week and have fun with the family outtings!
i do not like trailer homes because it is not sturdy enough specially when the weather goes bad ~,’
