Motivation Monday: Celebrating 2011 Achievements

Hey gang!

How’s everyone doing? Are you almost ready for Christmas? I can’t believe it’s less than a week away – ack!! I must admit that I’m not the least bit ready – I’m a MAJOR procrastinator, and it’s not helping that the lack of snow on the ground makes it feel more like Spring here than Christmas…. When there’s no snow I just can’t motivate myself to shop, and wrap and bake… But alas, I can’t procrastinate anymore – I think that I’m going to have a few late nights this week shopping and wrapping. I do this to myself EVERY.SINGLE.YEAR. When will I ever learn?

Which brings me to this week’s Mamavation Monday topic: Let’s celebrate our 2011 ACHIEVEMENTS!

At this time of the year it’s really easy to beat ourselves up over the resolutions that we didn’t keep, didn’t accomplish etc… But I’m sure if you really reflect back you can find quite a few things that you did ACHIEVE. Maybe they weren’t things you had planned to accomplish, but you did. Maybe you got a great new job? Maybe you got a great raise? Paid off some debt? Ran a great race? Worked out way more than you had previous years? Whatever it is, it’s time to CELEBRATE it!

So instead of beating myself up over the resolutions I didn’t accomplish, I’m celebrating my achievements. In January I registered for two half marathons which I was hoping would help motivate me to return to running and a much healthier lifestyle. I dragged and bribed the kids to come along on many training runs with me, and it was well worth it. I ran 5 races last year which is far more than I have run since 2004. I ran the:

  1. Harry’s Spring Run-Off 8K in April (finished in 51:17)
  2. Mississauga Marathon 10K in early May (finished in 1:11:53) and got to run with two great Twitter friends of mine, @Rozbatson and @Virgomommy:

    We did it!

  3. Toronto Women’s Half Marathon in late May (finished in 2:08:05)
  4. Toronto Challenge 5K in early June (finished in 25:25) 9th in my age group!
  5. ScotiaBank Toronto Waterfront Half Marathon (finished in 2:00:30)

Returning to running wasn’t easy, but I’m SO glad I did it. It’s really changed my focus from “working out” and “dieting” to training, racing, and fuelling my body. I also feel way happier than I’ve felt in years – which in my opinion is my second greatest accomplishment from this year (the first being breastfeeding my third daughter for the whole year).

I also had a secret goal for 2011 – I wanted to run a total of 750 km for the year. This is because in 2010 I ran 500 km (while I was pregnant), so I thought hey! Let’s see if I can run MORE while home with a newborn and two older kids. I’m close to my goal… I’ve ran 686 km’s this year, so hopefully over the next two weeks I can run 64 more.

So what about you? What were your accomplishments this year?

Please share so we can all celebrate with you!

PS – I have a friendly little challenge on DailyMile.com for 2012 & I’d love for you to join me!

If you liked this post, say thanks by sharing it:
