It has been my absolute pleasure sharing my training and fitness tips here at Fitness Cheerleader for the past 4.5 yrs, but as you can tell from the title of this post I’m contemplating changing my blog name/url and of course a re-design to go along with it. I’ve been on the fence about this for quite a while, and thought what better way to decide about my blogging future then to ask you for feedback.
I started blogging over 10 years ago. My original blog name was “Just Janice” and my best friend Kimmer who is super talented designed it for me. It was self-hosted and powered by Moveable Type. I wrote about anything and everything that came to my mind – it was essentially an online journal that was inspired by the book Bridget Jones Diary.
Mom on the Run
When I became pregnant with my first baby I decided to scrap “Just Janice” as life was no longer just about me. I decided to blog about pregnancy, fitness and motherhood as “Mom on the Run” – one of my first posts was about finding out I was pregnant with Sierra. Mom on the Run was a self-hosted wordpress site that I’ve continued to maintain over the past 10 years. I originally wrote there fairly frequently but postpartum depression and loneliness from raising 2 young children on my own prevented me from writing the kind of content worth sharing. The blog became less about running and fitness and more of a whine about how little sleep I was getting.
Over four years ago, Fitness Cheerleader began when my doctor and I conceded that we’d begin treating my postpartum depression through healthy eating and activity. Researching health and fitness info to share on Fitness Cheerleader definitely worked to cheer me up and motivated me to become active again. I had originally planned on writing on both blogs: Mom on the Run as a diary for sharing family and running related news, and Fitness Cheerleader for sharing health and fitness information. As our family grew to three children and I returned to work, I just didn’t have the time to draft posts for both blogs. My content on Fitness Cheerleader started changing as my postpartum depression lifted. I found happiness and self-acceptance in myself and rekindled my love affair with running. The lines between the two blogs blurred and I was soon sharing stuff on Fitness Cheerleader that I had intended to be for the Mom on the Run blog, like training progress, racing triumphs and occasionally family life.
Which Brings Me to Where I am Today
I still own both the domain names, twitter accounts and Facebook fan pages for Mom on the Run and Fitness Cheerleader and I’d like to get your opinion on how best to move forward. I will definitely be merging the two blogs into one as I do not have the time to operate two blogs.
This is where you come in:
- Which blog name should I operate as?
- How can I improve the blog going forward?
- What content interests you?
I would love for you to be part of this decision making process, would you be willing to give me your input? I have set up a short, 4-question survey on SurveyMonkey. All answers are anonymous and will remain private.
Thanks in advance for your help! I am looking forward to hearing what you have to say and to continuing our blogging friendship.
