The other day I found myself with a rare midweek day off of work. The kids had school, hubby was working (from home) and the weather was GORGEOUS! Every three weeks I get a Wednesday of work. Normally I use my day off of work to clean the house or to catch up on some writing projects, but this week I didn't have any plans!
I woke up early and relaxed a bit, then went to Starbucks to pick up hubby and I a coffee. When I got home the girls were fed and dressed for school and hubby had made each of us his famous breakfast egg sandwiches. We had some quiet time together to eat our sandwiches and to enjoy our coffees. Then I got the kids ready for school and we met our friends on the corner and all 7 of us walked to school together. Once the bell rang for school and all the kids were safely inside, Juliette and I headed out for a nice, longish 10k together.
We ran to my parents place, talked to them for a bit, and I ditched my jacket there because I was over dressed. While we were there I made impromptu lunch plans with my mom for later in the day. Then we ran to our friend Laura's house, but she wasn't home. We then ran home. It was really fun to tour the town together with no time deadline to get home.
After our awesome run, I showered, then relaxed and watched an episode of the Netflix show that I'm currently binging on: Switched at Birth. I totally love(d) this show (I finished watching the last episode of season 3 this morning). It's a family show that reminds me of the old 90210, It's about two girls who were switched at birth and come from totally different backgrounds. I thought I was done with this show, but I just found out that I can watch season 4 on Netflix starting on November 25th… yay! 🙂
After chilling out it was time to go pick up my mom for lunch. We went to Montana's where we both had salads. She had the chicken caesar salad and I had the Apple Pecan Harvest Salad. It was delicious!! How wrong isit that I have the same thing everytime I go there?
After our lunch together, my mom and I headed over to Indigo to find some books. My mom has recently been diagnosed with diabetes so we were on the hunt for a good book that would provide some guidance on how to manage her diabetes until she's able to meet with a counsellor at the diabetes clinic. We found this book that looked to be very thorough and even included a sample meal plan and recipes.
After our shopping we headed over to my friend Laura's house for coffee, to chat and to check out her wedding photos (they turned out great!).
I then drove my mom home, then went to my house to drop off my van. I then walked to the kids school and picked them up much earlier than they normally get picked up. I was excited to spend some extra time with them. We played for awhile together at the need park at their school before walking home together.
When we got home hubby had already begun making dinner. All in all it was so nice to spend the day doing things that *I* wanted to do. I rarely have days where I'm in complete cntrol of setting my own schedule. My soul had been longing for a day like that for a very long time.
In addition to the 10k with Juliette, I also did yoga on Tuesday, ran on Friday and swung my kettlebell around on Saturday, To be completely honest the kettlebell workout almost didn't happen because I just didn't feel up to it. I somehow managed to talk myself into doing it, pulled out my gymboss app and made myself do a different exercise for a minute every minute with 20 seconds rest between intervals. I felt so much better afterwards!!
