Some of you may remember this post, in which I shamelessly begged for a sponsor so I could go to Fitbloggin’ because I had been offered an AH-MAZING opportunity - I was picked to be a Live Blogger! Unfortunately, despite my best efforts (pitching brands I’ve worked with, tweeting and shamelessly begging), I was unable to find a sponsor.  So then I wrote this post, in which I sadly announced that I had given up my Live Blogger status for the Fitbloggin‘ Conference, allowing someone else to go instead.
Today I came across a very interesting tweet from Attune Foods (the great folk who make the delicious Uncle Sam and Erewhon breakfast cereals):
Am I still interested?  YES! YES! YES!!
So I followed the link and discovered that Attune Foods is not only giving away a Fitbloggin’ Conference ticket, but they are also offering $500 with that ticket to go towards airfare and/or accommodations!!
Before I can say why I DESERVE to go, let me explain why I chose to GIVE UP my Fitbloggin’ Conference pass:
After I received the email that I’d been picked to LIVE BLOG the conference, I researched how much it would cost to travel to Baltimore from Toronto…. $500!! I was shocked!  There is no way I could justify spending $500 of our FAMILY money on a conference, a FITNESS conference, when the money could be used instead towards FITNESS for our daughters.  I pitched several brands I had worked with, but unfortunately I was unable to secure a deal.  I sadly emailed Roni and explained that despite my best efforts, I was unable to secure sponsorship.  I then used $500 of our family money to register both Sierra and Brooke for summer soccer, and two weeks of summer camp – 1 week in July, and another week in August.  It broke my heart, but I knew I was doing the right thing.  Children need exercise, sports, and summer camp to develop LIFE skills, like confidence.  For me, this is far more beneficial than a conference trip, as the skills my girls will develop this summer (and future) summers, will stay with them for the rest of their lives.
This week the girls went to WalMart with daddy and picked out their soccer shin pads, to say they’re excited is an understatement.  I know I made the right decision, even if it broke my heart.
I REALLY wanted to go to the conference – I wanted to meet the friends I’ve made online.  The friends who have supported me for the past SEVEN years since I started blogging – first at Mom on the Run, and now here at Fitness Cheerleader.  My online friends, like Greta, Lisa, and Kia, have helped me to overcome the post-partum depression I wrote about extensively on Mom on the Run, most notably in this post called “This Life Sucks“.
Do I DESERVE to go to the conference?
Truthfully, I don’t really know – I haven’t really done anything super inspiring like lose a ton of weight. What I have done is battled depression with exercise and healthy eating and blogged about it here.  I also set the foundation for PREVENTING the return of depression by running through my third pregnancy – I ran over 500km while pregnant with baby Amber:
Now, I continue to prevent depression by exercising, and running – I recently completed an 8k race!  I will also be running a half marathon a week after Fitbloggin’.
I truly consider myself a ROLE MODEL – I want to show everyone that having kids is NOT a reason to stop being active and eating healthy.  In fact it’s the reason you SHOULD be active!  I hope that my running will inspire others.  I practice what I preach, I lead by example and I encourage my daughters and everyone I meet to be ACTIVE!  If this makes me deserving of this FABULOUS prize, then yes Attune Foods, I am deserving! All the best in health and fitness,
