Over the past little while I have participated in 5 races – that’s one race every weekend. While I’m really proud of that accomplishment, the honest truth is that I could not have done that without the help of some very special people.
Every runner needs… a very supportive spouse.
I owe a world of thanks to my very awesome hubby. Being married to a runner requires him to put up with all kinds of craziness – things like race kit pick-ups, compression socks, discarded bandages from blisters, stinky running gear etc. This year the craziness got worse when I decided to return to triathlon after a 10 yr break. Open water swimming, spinning classes, and cycling gear strewn across the house. Oh what a lucky man he is – lol!

My husband has taken great care of our daughters every weekend while I’ve been out enjoying my summer of racing, including this past weekend that was turned from a 5k race with the ladies, to an awesome ladies weekend away. My husband has been an awesome support and still continues to be one as he encourages me to continue going after my triathlon goals. Thank you honey!!
Every runner needs… sporty kids.
My daughters are my inspiration. Showing them that being active for the fun of it is half of my motivation, the other half is seeing them be active for the fun of it. We show each other how much joy activity can bring to our lives. And then there are days when they motivate me by making me chase them around the neighbourhood:
Every runner also needs… great training buddies.
Training for races isn’t easy – it takes a lot of motivation to push yourself harder with every workout to improve. Thank fully I have a very supportive community of friends. I have co-workers who spin and swim with me, co-workers who do weights with me, running friends nearby, and friends who cycle and swim with me. My only alone training is my lunch time runs. I’d like to thank all of my friends for encouraging me, supporting me and understanding when I have to bail out at 10 pm on a Saturday night because I have a race to do the next morning.
As I head into fall, and only have one race left of the season, it’s nice to reflect on all the great people in my life who make all of my running and racing possible. Competing brings so much joy to me, yet I couldn’t do it without my great husband, my kids, and all of my friends. I’m very thankful and blessed to have such great people in my life.
Thank you everyone!!
