Guest Post: Rachel’s SELF Love Tips

This Guest Post is part of my SELF Love February series by the fabulous Rachel of Running Rachel (@rachelsteffen). Like me she’s a busy mom of 3, but still finds lots of time to love herself, run and share her faith in Christ. Check out her great tips on how she has found SELF love – it’s not an easy road!

(If you would like to guest blog, then check out my guidelines here.)

Rachel & her threesome of cute little boys

More often than not, the self-talk in my head tends to be negative. The woman who I have dreamt about, dream to be, and yearn for is not always the same woman I am today. There have been days when I look at myself and think, “Who am I? Who are these small children calling me Mom? and When was the last time I showered!?” Yet, in those same thoughts I also think, “I am so blessed! I love my sons so much, they are amazing! and I am so thankful that I am confident enough to rock this look off” See, not always positive, but not all negative either. I am thankful for all the life experiences and blessings in my life.

Confusing?

Perhaps.

Basically, it is up to each of us to decide which thoughts we are to dwell on each day: the negative self-loathing talk or the positive self-love chatter.

I choose love.

I love my body. Albeit overweight and squishy, this body has made and birthed three handsome BIG boys in less than 4 years.

I love my not so perky breasts. My breasts have nurished three healthy children and are still being used as nurishment and for comfort.

I love my squishy self. My waist is not the size it was before children, nor my midsection as firm, my hips might be wider; yet it is the softest seat in the house for reading bedtime stories to three tired little men.

I think the biggest step to self-love is to really take a step back and reevaluate what you are looking at and for. I know I can find a bunch of negative in my life, my body or current situation. Yet, it is totally and COMPLETELY up to me with how I CHOOSE to view it.

Find one positive attribute about your body, your life, your current situation. Say it aloud. Write it on a post it note and post it somewhere to remind you of how AWESOME you really are!

For your body, it might be something like, “I have a nice smile!” or “I like that I have my mother’s toes” or even as dashing as, “I like that my bootie goes Pop Pop!” :D

You could get creative and ask for outside help with finding the positive self-love. But remember, all of this begins with YOU! You must first love YOURSELF before you can love others. Begin with the small things… and you will begin to see the BIG picture of how AMAZING YOU ARE!

I love that Rachel sees the physical changes and the awesome things that have caused them (the wider hips, the not-so perky breasts). What a great lesson for all of us!
