Goals, Goals, Wonderful Goals – These are my Goals, What Are Yours?

Happy 2011 everyone!

Can you believe that another year has gone by? Last year sure was a good one for me – I didn’t quite reach my goals, but the reason for that is a true miracle :)

Are your goals SMART?

This year my main goal is the same SMART goal as last year: To run a Half Marathon. I haven’t decided if I’m going to do the Toronto Women’s Half Marathon or the Ottawa Half Marathon (it really depends on if my pal Stephanie from Fit Mom… In Training decides to join Team in Training and run the Ottawa Half Marathon with me – now everyone go bug her and tell her she needs to raise some funds and join me!).  EDIT: Stephanie says she has a date with U2 and Bono that weekend so I’ve gone ahead and registered for the Toronto Women’s Half Marathon.

Like everyone else this time of year, I have a whole pile of other goals too.  Fitness goals, nutrition goals, blog goals, household goals…  The list goes on.  In fact I’ve already started on my Fitness goal – I did the 30 min workout with my Wii EASports Active More Workouts.

I’m gonna share my goals with you because a little birdie once told me that if you make your goals public you’re more likely to accomplish them – so here they are:

  • Go to Mama and Baby Fitness class twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays (until Amber can crawl)
  • Complete the couch to 5k program and run a 5k in early March
  • Run The Mississauga Marathon Race Weekend 10k in early May with my pals Tina and Roz (Roz is making the trip all the way from the other side of the world aka-Australia, to run with me so I better get to that starting line injury free!)
  • Run TWO half marathons – one in the Spring (Toronto Women’s Half Marathon), and one in the Fall (Scotiabank Half Marathon) – I’ve already registered for both!
  • Compete in a Triathlon – I’m thinking the Milton Women’s Triathlon

  • Only eat McDonald’s every other week – and only eat their salads
  • I can’t totally give up soda pop, but I will greatly reduce how much I have to 1/week
  • Increase my repertoire of meals that I prepare for my family – right now I think there are only three meals I prepare that they like: Chili, Spanish Rice Wraps and Spaghetti with Meat Sauce
  • Drink only 1 coffee/day (coffee is my best friend these days and I’d like to switch that to water).
  • Eat 7-8 servings of fruits and veggies each day.

  • Write posts from the heart 5 times/week
  • Inspire you to reach all of your goals
  • Comment on 5 blog posts/day
  • Encourage all of my mamavation sista’s by commenting on all of their Mamavation Monday blog posts each Monday
  • Secure sponsorship and attend at least one blog conference – perhaps the Mamavation Meet-Up?

  • Continue to use they Home Budget App on my iPhone to stay within my budgets and pay off my credit card
  • Organize the mess of toys in my basement
  • Organize all of the kids clothes and bedrooms
  • Pick out paint colours and have the whole house re-painted (the previous owners painted the whole house an awful hospital green that I’m sure contributed to my post-partum depression).

I think that’s about it :) Perhaps I’m a bit ambitious this year, but if you don’t set goals then how will you ever accomplish anything?

What are your goals this year?

It is very important to set up goals. I totally agree with you. As you said that if I don’t set goals then how I will ever accomplish anything? Every day I try doing something but I really don’t remember what I miss. If I can follow up my goals, I don’t think I will miss anything I should do. Thank you for your information.

I have to tell you that I’m an avid cyclist and enjoy fitness in general, but if there is one thing I do not like to do is running.
In my books, anybody who even has the mental strength to prepare for a half marathon ought to be commended and respected. Good Luck !!!!

I share the many of your goals and believe everyone should have many of them. I’ve been working out for over 40 years. A month and a half ago on my 80th birthday I jogged 4 miles at daybreak. I’m a cancer serviver of 11 years. A year ago I promised my so that I would drop my from 190 to 170 by my birthday. I weighed 170.5 that morning. Having goals is great, achieving them is even greater. I congratulate you for inspiring those of us who read your blogs to aim high,

Interestin blog on setting goals. I believe in setting goals. I’ve done it for most of my adult life. You have many goals which are too many to complete simultaneously. Separating those immediately obtainable from those unobtainable at the time is necessary. Start immediately with the highest priority obtainable goals. As one is completeled it is completed with the next one on the list.

Goals are so important to move us forward and not spinning in circles. I haven’t been great with this in the last few years with the craziness of life making me forget to stop and think and plan. This year will be better.
Set and achieve at least five reasonable goals that aren’t just a to do item on my many lists
Grow my business by 5% per month
Focus on finding new ways to keep my family happy and healthy and hopefully have those things be something to share on my site
    Spend more time on me
Reconnect with friends that I have lost touch with
Discover all the great beauty secrets to share with my followers like how to have beautiful white teeth at home.

    Hi Carole,
Nice to meet you. I am 67, retired from a 37 long years job and now have 3 in-home businesses. 2 just starting. See when your children grow and your grandchildren grow, the work never ends. My goals are to try and get organized with the 3 businesses and to get out and start walking again. Beginning to feel a little flabby. My other goal is to get all of you good fitness people to be really fit with chemical-free Melaleuca. Get rid of the poisons in your home and body and keep your children healthy and safe. email me and I will tell you all about it!
    Keep healthy!

I have goals also. One goal I completed was to no longer drink diet sodas. Guess what !! I don’t even miss them. I drink water or tea. My goal now is not to eat meat or have dairy products. I’m doing pretty good at that. I did have Turkey for Thanksgiving. My biggest goal is to get my website running well. I’ve started but have a ways to go. Congradulations on achieving some of your goals.

Running marathons, keeping in shape, and being your best requires very defined focused goals. A program I am personally enrolled in , is challenging me to be my best. This program is instrumental in renewing exercise in my daily routine, maintaining my healthful eating habits, and other business related goals.Personal growth is another area this program is outstanding in. It is worth checking out.

I am supremely bummed that Ottawa didn’t work out. Bono never comes to my town so I can’t miss our date. It would hurt his feelings :)

One day, we will definitely do a race together! I am in awe of your goals. I cannot wait to get into half marathon and triathlon shape!
