Did you go enter the contest?  Good – now here’s my story:
When I was 9 or 10 years old I went to a two-week summer OVERNIGHT camp. By.my.self.  I was a shy kid, but while I was there I gained a TON of confidence and broke out of my shell.  I’ll admit I was scared… at first. But there were so many fun things to do like archery, canoeing, swimming, sailing, soccer, crafts, etc that getting comfortable wasn’t too hard to do.  The camp I went to also had swimming lessons.. in a lake!  I had so much fun that I asked to go every summer for 3-4 summers in a row.  All those hours spent at swimming lessons in a lake gave me the open water swimming skills I needed when I competed in triathlons (before I had kids).  Oh – it was also a Christian Camp so I also learned a lot of values from the religious teachings, an appreciation for Jesus, and for everything on this great earth that the Lord has made for us.
What I’m trying to say is that summer camp is awesome!!ÂÂÂ
It’s one of those experiences in life that I absolutely INSIST that my girls have.
It’s FUN, they’ll develop great friendships, and they’ll learn things that I could never teach them – like how to make “gimp” friendship bracelets in a variety of styles: flat, zipper, circle and square that they can give out to their friends, water safety skills, and a whole pile of fun camp songs (you know the ones I’m talking about).
I’m actually really excited about them being old enough to go to overnight camp (together) next summer.  This year Brooke is too young, and well, she’d drive me bonkers of Sierra went without her, so we’re waiting one more year.
Have you ever gone to overnight camp?
Did you enjoy it?
Would you consider sending your kids to overnight camp?ÂÂÂ
