Too Cold Out to Play?

My neighbours must think my family is crazy…

Silly Janice, that's not a shovel

No, not because I sweep my driveway – though I do find that with a light snow its far more efficient.

But because we go outside NO MATTER WHAT THE WEATHER IS!  In the winter we go tobogganing, skating, and shovel/sweep the driveway.  Sometimes we even go to the park:

Look how high I can climb!

We ALWAYS have the park to ourselves in the winter :)  I don’t understand why… Because you can really go down a slide FAST in snow pants!

Watch us mommy!

Playing hide and go seek in the winter is fun too but for some reason the kids always find me rather quickly :(

Another thing we like to do is make snow angels:

Brooke

Sierra

My point is, it’s rarely too cold out to play – and there are lots of things to do!

QUESTION:
WHAT OUTDOOR WINTER ACTIVITIES DO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY ENJOY?

I have 2 little girls, ages 4 and 7. We love to go walking in the woods behind our house after a snowfall. You can see farther through the shrubs and trees when the ground in snowy white. We will watch for deer, turkeys, squirrels, rabbits, and all kinds of wildlife. I will show them different roots that the animals will dig up and we will also identify animal tracks found in the snow and determine how fresh they are. We have tons of fun after a snow. I will only keep them inside if the temps are below 30′F. It’s way too easy to get frost bitten or hypothermia for a little one. But we may all walk down our long driveway to check the mail, just to get out of the house!

I hate the cold, but I try to get Hanna outside, even when it’s cold. We built snow forts, and snow men, and she attacked me with snowballs. It can be lots of fun!
