Hey everyone! I did it! As I mentioned earlier last week, I ran the Chilly Half Marathon yesterday! (And boy am I ever sore!). It was a fantastic day – sunny, no snow, but a little bit cold (-6C). Brrrrrr! Thank goodness I was running with my BRF (Best Running Friend), Emma:
And thank goodness I was running in these super cool, ultra-lightweight, zero drop Saucony Virrata shoes that did not feel like bricks on my feet, nor did they give me massive blisters that I was given to review (review will be up later this week):
Because there is no way I could have finished the race AND enjoyed myself without Emma or my shoes based on the amount of training that I did:
(Folks – do not try to fake a half marathon, I assure you it’s painful)
While I’m really happy that I did the race, and happy with my finishing time (2:09:16), I’m very disappointed in myself for not putting in the training effort. I could have done a whole lot better with training, and I would be in far less pain right now. I would say I’m only half crazy though – at least I didn’t try to run a full marathon without training (I’ve tried that too and it ain’t pretty).
That said, instead of giving myself a free pass to eat all the crap I want because “Hey! i just ran a half a marathon!”, I’m going to buckle down and train for Ragnar So Cal– I have a team of 11 other people I’ll be letting down if I don’t!
So I’m getting right back on the training horse:
Monday: Lunch spinning class
Tuesday: 6k run
Thursday: 6K run
Friday: 8k run
Sunday: 10 k run
