Next week in Ottawa, I’ll be participating in my first ever Color Run! I’ve seen many people post about their awesome experiences with doing a Color Run, so I’m really excited about participating in 5k of color running madness too. SIX fabulous color stations!! That said, I’ve never done a color run before so I’m kind of nervous though I hear they’re a ton of fun!!
What is the Color Run?
The Color Run is a five-kilometer, un-timed race in which thousands of participants are doused from head to toe in different colors at each kilometer. The fun continues at the finish line with a gigantic “Finish Festival,” using more colored powder to create happiness and lasting memories, not to mention millions of vivid color combinations.
What is the color made of?
Each kilometer of the event is associated with a designated color: yellow, orange, pink and blue. As the runners and walkers reach the kilometer COLOR zones, they are blitzed by volunteers, sponsors, and staff with COLOR (dyed cornstarch). All products are 100% natural and safe. You can eat the stuff if you’d like, although we have tried it and don’t suggest it – surprisingly high in calories and leaves a chalky aftertaste! Of course, they save the best for last, ending the race with a color extravaganza of epic proportions.
Here it is in Slo-mo:
Because this is something I’ve never done before – I asked around for advice on some Do’s and Don’ts so that I can get the most enjoyment out of the Color Run, and here’s what I’ve been told:
DON’T expect to run the whole time.
DO have fun
DON’T expect to PR.
DO take it all in.
DON’T take the race seriously.
DO enjoy the event.
DON’T be afraid to get dirty.
DO get as dirty as you can.
DON’T breathe in when you run through the color.
DO Take baby wipes to get the color off your face.
DO Take extra clothes if you get really colorful
DO Have fun!!
With only two rules, the idea is easy to follow:
- Wear white at the starting line
- Finish plastered in C O L O R !!!
This run sounds like a ton of fun and I can’t wait for next weekend! Color Run, here I come!!!
