First off, thank you thank you thank you! I cannot express to you how happy I am to hear that I’m not the only one struggling with motivation and suffering from a heavy case of the winter blahs. You have no idea how much all of your kind words on yesterday’s post means to me, and how much your words have made me feel better about my current amount of “training ” lately. I keep seeing awesome pictures of people rocking their workouts in my Instagram, or Facebook feeds and have felt like I’m the only one struggling. It is nice to hear that I am not alone in these feelings of blahness.
When I decided last fall that I wanted to qualify for the 2016 Boston Marathon as a 40th birthday bucket list item, I knew that it would require A LOT of hard work and training for it to happen. I also knew that it would take a boatload of motivation to do that training. I would have to eat, sleep and dream about my goal pretty much 24/7 – it will take a lot of dedication for me to accomplish this.
Another thing I knew was that I probably couldn’t do this completely on my own. I could try to put together a training program and go after it – though I would probably over train and get injured, or under train and fall miserably short of my goals. As I posted yesterday, lately I’ve been completely under training. My level of activity has been just short of the requirements of staying healthy – and nowhere near the quality or quantity that I should be putting in to build the strength and endurance that I need to run a full marathon next fall.
So I’ve been experimenting with trial strength classes, trial running coaches, a trial personal trainer and even waking up early to run to see if any of those changed my motivation, dedication or commitment. A few years ago I even tried hiring a housekeeper to come twice a month to clean for me to see if that made a difference in my training (even that didn’t work out). I have come to the conclusion that I need someone who can function as both a coach and a trainer. (Though someone who could be a coach, trainer AND housekeeper would be ideal).
I have chosen to hire Mike, the coach/personal trainer that I wrote about last week. I’m at that point where I need to hire someone to help me, either a housekeeper, a coach, or a trainer and I’ve finally made my decision! Though the cost was a bit more than I expectedÃ¢â‚¬Â¦I’m going to have to spend A LOT of time designing blogs in order to pay for his expertise, support and motivation! (I’m really not kidding – if you need wordpress support, contact me!).
My training officially starts on Thursday! I’m looking forward to the positivity, motivation and energy from Mike to take me to the next level with my training. I’m also hoping to bring that same level of positivity, motivation and energy to all facets of my life (my blog included). When I’m happy with my workouts I’m a much happier person to be around. That said, I’m sure that I’m going to have to do A LOT of hard work and that Mike won’t let me slack….
