My husband always complains that I’m cheap.
Cheap. Cheap. Cheap.
The birds sing songs about me. But I’m not cheap, like hooker cheap. I’m cheap as in I hate spending a lot of money on things that I don’t need to cheap.
Like on health and fitness products.
It’s not that I don’t think my health is worth spending money on. Trust me – I take my health seriously and it’s very valuable to me. It’s just that I don’t honestly believe you need to spend a lot of money on fitness equipment etc to be healthy. In fact, I know plenty of people who spend a lot of hard earned money on gyms but aren’t the least bit healthy.
Yes – you can lose weight and be healthy without spending much money. I’m not talking starving yourself either.
Here are my 4 tips for losing weight the cheap way:
- Sleep.
Sleep, glorious sleep will help you lose your muffin top. How? Getting enough sleep means your body won’t produce the stress hormone cortisol. Cortisol makes you feel hungry when you’re not, and makes you crave nasty junk food. If you’re really serious about wanting to lose weight, turn off your screens early and go to bed. - Eat Plants.
The main course of every single meal should be fruits and veggies. Starches such as pasta and bread, and meats/proteins should be side dish to your veggies. Plants are full of nutrients, and vitamins and don’t really cost that much in comparison to chips and cookies. Plants are low-cal, low-fat and if you eat enough of them the fiber will help you feel full. - Drink Water.
Studies have shown that drinking a glass of water before a meal will help you to consume less calories – this is particularly true if you’re a middle aged woman. Water helps you digest food, our bodies are made of water, and we often confuse thirst with hunger. Tap water is as good for you as bottled water. So gulp, gulp, gulp! - Sweat.
Sweat for at least 30 min every day. Your body doesn’t care if you sweated while running on a $1200 treadmill, or if you did jumping jacks for 30 min. All it knows is that you exercised. Pushups, lunges, squats, planks, and tricep dips are all exercises that you can work into a 3o minute circuit. If you alternate strength moves with cardio moves at home, you’ll burn a ton of calories.
In all honesty it really is that simple, and it can be that cheap.
