One of the most inspirational things about the fitness magazines I read are the reader stories of success. I always think “Hey! If she can do it, then so can I”. Then, I put down whatever sweet I’m eating at the moment and grab a glass of water. Because I find these articles so inspiring, I thought that it would be nice to share the success stories of my readers.
This week, I’m featuring Andrea from Oregon who blogs at: Adventures in All Things Food. Andrea is very active in the #mamavation Twitter group (her twitter name is: notimemom). She’s currently a FINALIST for the title of Mamavation Mom for campaign 8 and could REALLY use your vote to help her win!
Andrea (notimemom) has recently lost 21lbs! As a child she was active and never thought about weight, she felt that she had won the genetic lottery since her family was heavy. Unfortunately, during college studying and eating caused weight to pile on her quickly. After losing and regaining weight through her 20s, she now finds that at 32, with a 3 year old and 19 month old at home it’s a lot harder to lose weight. This is why, although successful on her own so far, she would really like our vote for Mamavation Mom.
Q – What was your turning point? Why did you embark on your weight loss journey?
After the birth of my daughter I started thinking about the bad eating habits I witnessed in my Mother as a child. Both my children have a metabolic disorder that makes food tricky to navigate, so I knew I needed to be a better fitness role model for their own health.
Q – What is your #1 motivation that keeps you working to lose/maintain your weight?
Joining the Mamavation Sistahood last year was the best thing I ever did. It has been the support and community I needed to make real, lasting changes. It is a slow road, but a healthy one to my ideal weight range.
Q – How has losing weight changed you?
Small children want to go, go Go! Exercising not only gives me activities to share with my children (My son is addicted to Just Dance Kids!) but it also has given me the energy and patience to be a better Mother. I hope it also means we will get outside more doing the activities my husband loves – skiing, Mt. biking, hiking, etc.
Q – What have you done to lose the weight? What life-style changes have you made?
I cook from scratch now. We know exactly what goes into our food. I gave up drinking my calories in soda, alcohol and coffee drinks. Now I go for water first. And my goal everyday is to be active and get us all outside.
