Hey guys! Today is day 8, of the 31 Days to a Healthier You series of one day challenges. If you’re new to the challenges, here’s a summary of the past week so that perhaps you can catch up:
- Day 1: Set Your SMART Goals
- Day 2: Let’s Plan for Success!
- Day 3: Move your Body
- Day 4: Get more Sleep
- Day 5:Let’s Flex Those Muscles!
- Day 6: Eat a Rainbow
- Day 7: Plan Your Meals
How did you do with your meal planning yesterday? Did it help you with your grocery shopping for the week?
I planned out easy to make meals for this week because my hubby will be in Portugal, leaving to solo parent the 3 girls by myself. It’s going to be a hard week: get the kids up and dressed, feed them breakfast, pack lunches & school bags, daycare drop-off, school drop-off, drive to work, work, drive back to pick up the kids, then dinner, then back out to swimming & gymnastics lessons, then home, baths & bed – eeek! With careful planning I can make this week easier on myself, in particular packing the school bags and lunches the night before.
Day 8: Pack your lunch!
Tonight/tomorrow morning let’s pack up a lunch and bring it to work, or school. Even if you are lucky & get to stay home, pack yourself a lunch with two small snacks and ONLY eat that.
Why?
- Packing your lunch is easy
- You’ll save time
- You’ll save money
- You’ll make healthier choices
- Bagged lunches are better for the environment
- You can use up your leftovers
Pictured above is the lunch that I’ve already packed up for tomorrow: an apple, tuna salad, two hard-boiled eggs, carrots, cottage cheese, a granola bar and a water bottle. I need lots of snacky stuff because I’m going to a spinning class which uses up my whole lunch time – I’ll have to eat most of my food on my way over or on my way back from the class
Have a great day guys!

Thanks so much for such a simple, but far-reaching tip. I always make healthier lunch and snack choices when my cooler is full of clean eats.
Don’t understand why people think it’s so time-consuming to pack a lunch. Takes way more time to visit a restaurant!

I love this tip. We’ve saved so much money over the years doing this. I actually get cranky when I have to buy lunch!
Me too! It bugs me when a sandwich in the cafeteria costs more than a loaf of bread. This week I even began to bring my own green tea bags so that I can save $4/day on my twice a day green tea habit. That’s almost $80/month that I’ll save!!

What a wonderful reminder of all the benefits, not just the healthier choices.
I am a firm believer in packed lunches. With my crazy life, the only way I could ever eat even remotely healthy is to bring it with me. I have NO time at all during the week, so I spend 1 hour every Sunday and make all my breakfasts (I start at 7 so I eat at work) and lunches for the entire week. That’s all the time it takes and it saves so much time and money throughout.
I love that I am in control this way.
