A Day in the Life of the Fitness Cheerleader: Part I

So I was totally stuck on what to write about. Usually I get post ideas from questions I’m asked on Twitter, or from other blogs I’ve read, but lately I haven’t been online much. Instead I’ve been hanging out with the kiddos.

This got me to thinking… Perhaps I should share a glimpse into MY life? How do I fit it all in with THREE kids? What’s a typical day for me?

My day is kinda like this

I have two types of days: Tuesdays/Thursdays – when the older kids are at school/preschool, and then all the rest of the days.

Since today is Thursday, I’ll share my Tuesday/Thursday routine today, and tomorrow I’ll share my “all the rest of the days” routine. You would think this is my easy “relaxing day” but it really isn’t:

4:30 am – wake up and nurse Amber – this is probably my favourite part of the day… cuddling with my warm sweet baby while the house is quiet :)

7:30 am – wake up to 3.5 yo Brookie at my bedside urging me to come downstairs and cuddle with her by the fireplace “Mommy, mommy! It’s time to get up! See… the sun is already up!”. Sierra and hubby are usually already up because it’s a “school” day.

8:00 am – prepare breakfast for Brooke (hubby usually has already fed Sierra). I also make a protein shake and a coffee for me, and I prepare Sierra’s lunch

8:15 am – run around the house trying to find Sierra’s home reading book and her library book. Often these are in her room – but today they mysteriously disappeared, resulting in several trips up and down the stairs looking frantically for them.

8:30 am – kiss Sierra and hubby goodbye. (Hubby drives Sierra to school).

8:30 am – 9:00 am – play quietly with Brookie.

9:00 am – Amber up. Brooke rushes upstairs with me to hold her. I then change Amber and nurse her, while urging Brooke to get dressed so I can take her to preschool.

9:30 am – I get my workout clothes on, and help Brooke get her clothes on

9:45 am – drive Brooke to preschool. She loves the one-on-one time and talks my ear off on our drive. After I drop her off I pick up a green tea at Tim Horton’s – it’s a celebration of the beginning of my “me day”.

10:15 – 11:00 am home. Amber is usually fast asleep in her carseat, having her first nap of the day (oh I wish I was a baby!). I check email, tweet and take an inventory of our food supply, in case I need to stop and pick anything up.

11:00 am – drive over to the Leisure Centre for my Mommy/Baby Bootcamp class. Amber often wakes up as soon as we get there and wants to feed, so I try to arrive 10 min early for class to accomodate her.

11:15-12:15 am – SWEAT! (Bootcamp class)

12:25 pm – home. Lunch is a can of Tuna and a spinach salad topped off with strawberries and mushrooms. Nom nom!

1:00 – 2:00 pm – my hour of Amber time! I nurse her and play with her!

2:00 – 3:00 pm – Amber is usually down for another nap. I clean the kitchen, fold laundry, pick up toys, take a shower, and occasionally I get a few minutes to draft a blog post.

3:00 – 3:30 pm – time to wake up sleepy Amber (I hate doing this to her) and take her to pick up Sierra from school. I either drive, or walk, or run – depending on the weather. It’s still slushy and snowy, making it hard to push a stroller, so i usually drive. I can’t wait for Spring! Only a few more weeks until I can walk/run every day!

3:30 pm – home with a very hungry Sierra and a very hungry Amber.

3:30 pm – 5:00 pm I run laps to the kitchen preparing snacks – yogurt, apple slices, cheese, granola bars…. I nurse Amber, then cook dinner while Sierra plays with Amber.

5:00 pm – time to pick up Brooke from preschool. Amber usually falls asleep again.

5:45 pm – home. Amber is hungry again and Sierra and Brooke are eager to play with each other. I nurse Amber, then dish out the dinner for us. (Dinner is usually either: Spanish rice wraps, Spaghetti and meatballs, beef and broccoli stirfry, or chicken caesar wraps).

6:30 -6:45 pm – clean up from dinner

6:45 pm – 8:00 pm – play with the kids in the basement – toilet tag, Zerbert monster, Lego, tea parties etc. Amber usually gets fussy during this time period as well.

8:00 pm – hubby home. Sierra and Brooke attack him while I get Amber ready for bed, nurse her and put her to bed.

8:30 pm – 9:00 pm – assist hubby with showers, and snuggle/book time

9:00 pm – 9:30 pm – time with hubby. Our only time to discuss the day with each other. Usually I share cute stories about the kids and he tells me about his work day.

9:30 pm – 10:00 pm – some quiet laptop time. Hubby likes to unwind while watching sports in the basement, while I prefer the quiet of the living room.

10:00 pm – bedtime! Occasionally Amber wakes up for a feed while I’m getting ready for bed – perhaps I should be quieter?

I really enjoy my bootcamp class, but as you can see, it causes me to have a really busy day.  Brooke only goes to preschool these days so I can go to my class and have some “quiet” time.  There’s only a month left of the class, and then I can skip the whole driving to the Leisure Centre part, and workout at home and go for a run instead.  It’s exciting that Spring is right around the corner!

Question: What is your day like? How do you fit it all in?

Ok, wow, I think my tubes just tied. Funny how pre-school days make for busy time, eh? We’re tues/thurs here too with but only for 3 hours, just enough time for gym/shower and go get her. Bravo to you. That’s not easy!

    Janice,
Kudos on a very well planned schedule! Just curious, how do you find time to write these blogs if you only have half hour of “quiet laptop time”?

    Cheers
