Hi! Welcome to my blog!
I’m Janice – I call myself the Fitness Cheerleader because I like to encourage people to lead a healthy and active lifestyle. You may have already met though Twitter (@fitcheerldr), where I spend a lot of time chatting about health and exercise, and I’m an active member of the Mamavation Community, cheerleading and encouraging the moms. I have a B.Sc degree in Kinesiology, and a Certificate in Athletic Therapy so I strongly believe in active living and eating. You will find that my focus on Fitness Cheerleader is not on weight or weight loss because I believe that being healthy is more than just a healthy weight. Strength, cardiovascular endurance, balance, flexibility… Those are what being healthy is to me.
My family…
I married my University sweetheart almost 8 years ago and we have THREE amazing daughters. Sierra is 6, Brooke is 4 and Amber just turned 1. My hubby and I love being active with them and teaching them about healthy living. These little apples didn’t fall far from the tree – they’re all very athletic just like us. Sierra plays hockey, and soccer, is into gymnastics and is learning to swim. Brooke just started playing soccer, and is a fantastic gymnast. And baby Amber is learning to love the water in parent & tot swimming.
As for me…
I LOVE to run! Running is my exercise soul-mate. Before I had kids I ran a lot (here’s my race history), but then I got away from it for five LONG years. I suffered from post-partum depression after I had Sierra and didn’t manage to get rid of my “cloudy” brain unti I finally returned to running two years ago while I was pregnant with my third daughter. This year I returned to racing & running half marathons.
Future goals…
I’m a goal-oriented person, so I thrive on setting goals and creating plans to reach them. I’m currently training for a really big 2012 which I hope will include:
- A sub-2 hour half marathon (and maybe even a personal best)
- A 30k race (Around-The-Bay)
- A 75K cycle (Ride For Heart) – for this race I’ve also committed to raising $1000 for the Heart and Stroke Foundation
- A 1/2 Iron Man distance Triathlon
Thanks for stopping by!
-Janice
